THE STORY WHISPERER WORKSHOPS
Inspire and inform your organization, club, community or other group with one of the fun yet intensive workshops in our THE STORY WHISPERER™ series! All of the sessions below include a detailed participant handout; offer benefits to participants with a wide range of writing experience and skill levels, from beginners to longtime writers; work with both small and large groups; and can be adapted to 2-hour, half-day, full-day and weekend intensive sessions.

NOVELISTS' WEEKEND INTENSIVE: Limited to a maximum of four students, this two-day writers' retreat and workshop combines group sessions, one-on-one time with the instructor, and time to write on your own. We read and discuss each participants first 20 pages together, identifying opportunities as well as challenges; share a Q/A session at which participants can raise their own questions and learn from others; discuss the publishing marketplace; and offer writing prompts that can be used as desired to get the creative juices flowing. Each participant meets with instructor Suzanne Fox for an hour-long individualized session at which writer goals, work and concerns can be privately discussed.
NARRATIVE NONFICTION WEEKEND INTENSIVE: This Intensive is identical in format and offerings to the Novelists' Weekend Intensive described above but serves those writing books of narrative and creative nonfiction.
THE HEART OF STORY: Story structure is the single biggest challenges most novelists face, and can cripple or halt a book in progress even when all of the other elements are working well. Yet it’s complex enough that it’s really difficult to “diagnose,” troubleshoot and strengthen. This workshop offers a simple but powerful way to look at the four core aspects of strong stories and helps you adapt them to your own work in progress.
WRITING HISTORICAL FICTION: This workshop on historical fiction writing addresses two main challenges: how to evoke a time period very different from our own accurately yet vividly, and how to ensure that your historical fiction feels both powerful in the context of its own period and relevant to our own contemporary life. The differences between “literary” and genre historical fiction are among the other issues covered.
EVOKING THE SENSES: This is one of our favorite workshops for groups seeking fun as well as inspiration. Designed to enhance your use of sensory impressions and information, it helps you capture such impressions vividly, exploit the possibilities of all of the senses rather than just one or two, and build sensory perception right into the structure of your story.
